Hello, I'm Nicole Glesinger. Leaves of Love is a community service project that I created this summer. The goal of the project is to teach kids about environmental issues in their communities, reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and recycle waste products. Each handmade leaf is made out of recycled material and contains a Sugar Maple seed. Every leaf is constructed by students from the Cambridge, Wisconsin School Area. If all of the 1,000 leaves are planted 2,880,000 lbs of CO2 will be eliminated from the atmosphere! The success of my project is due to tons of wonderful people I'm lucky to have in my life. First I want to thank the Alzar School and the community that surrounds and supports every student there, this community has taught me more than I have room to write. I thank my mentor Erica Hampel for many meetings and always providing great advice. I thank John Bengtson, Kristen Birele, and Sean Birele, my leadership teachers at Alzar, for pushing me to make it happen. Thank you to my mom Lisa Glesinger, my grandpa Joe Arington, and my dad Greg Glesinger, for helping me with all the little things, and most importantly being my best mentors in life. Thanks to all the teachers at Cambridge who allowed me to work with their students this summer. I'm grateful for all of the kids I've gotten to work with through this project, you're all so wonderful. Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked to make the project happen. Thanks to Rachel Grauerholz, the behind the scene girl that makes the mess turn to magic. Thank you to my family and friends for always supporting me. Thank you to Rory, Finn, and Oliver Chesebro for spending hours figuring out how to make paper with me. Thanks to the Arington Tree Farm for providing tree seeds. Thank you to the Cambridge Art Department for providing supplies. My project couldn't have happened with out all these awesome people. Thank you!
